‘Up Ship Street’ is an exhibition of artist Susan Adams’s creative exchanges with Jerwood prize-winning author Jo Mazelis and Award-winning poet Lesley Saunders. Funded by a Major Creative Wales Award, it’s a startling exploration of relationships between words and images entering territories ranging from the amusing to the macabre.
Mazelis and Adams corresponded on “Basildon Bond” through the ciphers of various characters that sprang to life in the words and drawings as they were dispatched. The Saunders-Adams exchange evolved into animations with voice-overs telling tales of domestic half-worlds and the nurturing of the inanimate.
‘Up Ship Street’ runs until the end of June 2017.
